Matchmaker Dating Reviews and Complaints

Matchmaker is a well-known Internet dating service that works with individuals aged 35 and over. The service allows people to review each other’s online profiles and then continue on to directly contact a person whose profile indicates that they will be a good potential match. Members provide their basic information when they sign up including age, location of residence and ethnicity. In addition Matchmaker asks members to provide some general information about “what makes you unique” (animal ownership, faith, occupation and education). Members make direct contacts with each other to begin communication, set up meetings and start dating.

Jill from Seattle writes that, despite her reservations, she completed her Matchmaker profile. She has subsequently met some interesting men. “I was wary, especially after hearing my friends’ reviews about online dating, but Matchmaker surprised me. I was able to engage in online communication with potential dates before I actually met any of the men which was important to me. I’ve had some great dates and am continuing to look further.”

Russell from Ames Iowa notes that even Internet dating doesn’t allow for a wide matchmaking choice in small communities. “The site tries to be everything for everyone -- I find myself communicating with women who live thousands of miles away, which always gets my hopes up, but then they say “I can’t move” and since I can’t either, it’s another disappointment. I’d like to see Matchmaker set up programs based on location.”

Jonah from Ottawa has no complaints. “Maybe the number of Canadian women who use Matchmaker is higher than for other areas, but as soon as I registered I started to receive emails. I’m presently involved in a long-term relationship with a woman from Toronto who I met through Matchmaker.”

Alyssa from St. Petersburg, Florida, voices a complaint that others have expressed as well. “I thought that I’d give Internet dating a try but in the end, I think that I’d prefer to find a matchmaking service that screens the participants. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not comfortable meeting strangers unless a third party has done some preliminary investigating first.”

Jim from Detroit is pleased with Matchmaker’s services. “They are very clear about their policies and procedures and give you an honest overview of what they can deliver. My experience with the service was positive. I’ve met a number of women through Matchmaker and find that it provides exactly what it promises.
